Canterbury Riverside – Transforming Kingsmead

Plans have now been submitted for the regeneration of the former Serco Depot and coach park in the Kingsmead area of Canterbury.

In line with Canterbury City Council’s aspirations, Linkcity’s planning application proposes a vibrant leisure-led scheme that will create 80 new full-time-equivalent jobs and deliver:

  • a multi-screen cinema
  • 8 cafés, bars and restaurants
  • 189 new homes
  • 484 purpose-built and professionally managed student bedrooms
  • a small convenience store and two smaller shops
  • a public square for events and cultural activities
  • a canoe house and pontoon
  • an extension of the riverside pathway with improved access to the river
  • Discrete undercroft car parking.

Hoardings will soon be put up around the site as demolition crews get ready to pull down the some of the existing buildings for public safety reasons. This work is required regardless of the outcome of the planning process.
